3. Recruiting Journey:

Despite holding verbal and official offers from multiple Power 4 programs to play offensive tackle, Isaiah Tanner never lost sight of his true dream—lining up at tight end. The “prestige” of playing at a national powerhouse wasn’t enough to pull him away from the position he loved. Determined to make it happen, he verbally committed to Oklahoma State on June 8, 2024, after an official visit, drawn in by their willingness to consider him as a TE.

But as the season went on, Isaiah saw the way Jeff Traylor and Justin Burke were featuring the tight end position at UTSA, and he knew that’s where he belonged. On October 23, 2024, he announced his decommitment from OSU. Just weeks later, following an official visit to San Antonio in early November, he made the call—committing to the Roadrunners and the chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a true Division I tight end.

4. Officially in the Class of 2025

UTSA coach Jeff Traylor announced Isaiah as one of 20 additions to the 2025 recruiting class on February 5, 2025 UTSA Athletics. Out of the 29 total signees, Isaiah represents one of 13 high school athletes joining the roster, with 18 others being transfers or junior college players UTSA Athletics.

5. What This Means for UTSA and Killeen

Isaiah’s hometown roots in Killeen make this commitment particularly special for the local community. UTSA continues to strengthen its in‑state recruiting footprint, as 18 of its signees hail from Texas, covering regions like Central Texas (including Killeen), San Antonio, Houston, and more UTSA Athletics. His size, athleticism, and versatility—enhanced by his track & field background and strong academics—make him a promising addition to the tight end room.
