THIS IS IKI.

The video below is one of the greatest examples of Intensity and Killer Instinct known to man. If you can embody a quarter of the IKI Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez demonstrated on the battlefield to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, you will be a force to be reckoned with on game day.

I+KI

I+KI stands for Intensity and Killer Instinct. Both are ATCs, but these two, in particular, represent a sheer will and determination that allows you to defy and create your own odds.

INTENSITY.

Intensity defines your degree of effort. It measures your desire to go after everything with great energy and strength. Even better, intensity measures your ability to stay hungry and eat– every rep, every play, and devour every opportunity to put in work.

KILLER INSTINCT.

Killer Instinct is the ruthless determination to succeed or win. Athletes who possess Killer Instinct are single-handedly capable of taking over and altering the outcome of a game. They’ll also:

  • Never quit or give up on themselves or their team.
  • Maintain the highest levels of intensity.
  • Stay positive, even in the face of adversity.
  • Make a way, even when there isn’t one.
  • Push themselves physically and mentally beyond what is thought possible.

DEVELOPING I+KI

To develop Intensity and Killer Instinct, you have to go to WAR every rep:

  • Make the decision every moment that in this moment, nothing is more important than doing whatever needs to be done to accomplish the mission (win).
  • Develop your ATCs to and beyond the standard.
  • Develop your position-specific skills to LV-3.
  • Master Problem Solving.
  • Conquer your Sixth Sense.
  • Give 100% effort (go hard) at everything you do, every time you do it.
  • Understand that effort should only increase the more tired you get or as things get harder.
  • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or learn from them.

Doing these things will help you develop a level of skill, RTVP, and confidence in yourself allowing you to turn on, turn up, and access a level of play far beyond what most players are currently capable of. Yeah, some players might be really good, they may even have 5-stars and be considered the best. But, I can guarantee you, they’re only considered the best because they’ve never crossed paths with an athlete of adequate Intensity and Killer Instinct to shut all that hype down!

BASEBALL SPECIFIC

On the baseball field, you demonstrate I+KI by:

  • Not playing the ball off the hop (outfield). Instead, do the work to develop the confidence and ability to get after every ball, even if you have to dive for it. The only ball you ever all to drop is one you absolutely know you can’t get to.
  • Not standing in the batter’s box, looking at pitches. Do the work to develop the confidence and ability to hit the ball where it is (as long as it’s in the strike zone), instead of waiting for your pitch. Even when the pitcher throws fire– because you will never hit anything if you don’t swing.
  • Bounce back from any and every mistake. Because mistakes are only made in the moment. Let that moment pass and get back to work.
